Description: An idea was
born when Mary Jo Myers, founder of PSMT, realized a recovery
from her life-threatening disease through the help of Pfrimmer
Deep Muscle Therapy - Mary Jo suffered from lupus erythematosis
for several years before she accepted the healing art of massage
as a last resort. Her rapid improvement and steady progress since
the early 1970's created in her a desire to help others throughout
the world in need of this unique therapy. Mary Jo's recovery
was not unlike that of Therese Pfrimmer herself who was told
she would never walk
again but recovered from her paralysis through her own discovery.
Victoria Ross, the inspiration
behind Mary Jo's acceptance of massage, founded the Deep Muscle
Therapy Center in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania in 1980. The
center serves as a clinic
for the prevention and correction of muscle related problems.
A gifted therapist and teacher, Victoria was invited in 1982
by the original Pfrimmer School of Canada to become one of
the first two teachers of PDMT in the United States. Mary Jo
chose to channel her business administrative abilities toward
organizing a school which would enable beginners and
advanced students to earn a living through helping others. Thus,
in 1982 Pennsylvania gave birth to a state licensed school which
would afford the proper credentials to aspiring therapists.
1986 marked the school's first AMTA-approved class. In 1992,
PSMT became the first AMTA program-approved school to have a
program accredited by COMTAA. The school's
growth required the main facility to be moved in 1990 and again
in 1994 to its current location at The Woods office complex.
By combining PSMT with an advanced
corrective muscle therapy clinic, students are afforded a unique
exposure to one of the most sophisticated forms of massage available
in the world
today. While providing state of the art massage instruction,
the directors of PSMT care about people and welcome the type
of student who embraces that same philosophy. |

Description: UCMT's courses
of study are practical and effective vocational training programs.
They are designed to create successful, professional licensed
bodyworkers and to support the learning and personal growth process
of students. Our basic philosophy is "freedom in learning"
within an atmosphere of openness and intelligent inquiry. We
teach many different methods and theories of body therapy. There
is no "only way." Each modality is considered a "tool"
to be used by the practitioner for the benefit of the client.
The profession of massage therapy is young and rapidly expanding
with new and effective techniques emerging through innovative
practitioners. We prepare our students to approach the work creatively
with the possibility of improving the
methods of the past and developing the methods of the future. |
